Jayson Castro out at least a week for Tropang TNT, but assured no tear in Achilles heel

TROPANG TNT got both good and bad news regarding the condition of top gunner Jayson Castro.

The good news is that no tear was found in the right Achilles heel which he injured on Sunday night in the Texters’ 96-88 loss to Star Hotshots.

The bad news, though, is he’ll be out for the next four to five days with no activity at all, meaning he will likely be unavailable when the team returns to the court on Sunday against NLEX.

Castro was not in uniform and hobbled while walking, but still found the time and effort to be at Gilas Pilipinas’ practice on Monday night at the Moro Lorenzo gym.

“Wala namang punit, yun ang good news,” he said at the end of the weekly night session. “Pero sobrang maga siya kaya medyo masakit. Ang advice ng doctor four to five days as in no activities.”

‘The Blur’ underwent an ultrasound on Monday and was injected with painkillers to ease the throbbing in the right tendon.

Castro re-injured the same Achilles heel he hurt during the 2014 Fiba World Cup in Spain and kept him out of the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea later that same year.

The injury recurred late in the Texters’ game against the Hotshots, which the 29-year-old point guard failed to finish. He had 18 points, three rebounds, and five assists in 36 minutes of play, but surprisingly missed two free throws in the stretch run that could have tied the count.

The Gilas Pilipinas mainstay said he has no idea on when he’ll be able to play again, although Tropang TNT’s alarming skid which had the team dropping to a 2-4 record is of primary concern for Castro.

“Yung advice ng doctor rest lang talaga. So hindi ko pa alam kung ano ang plano ng mga coaches namin,” he said.

After NLEX, Tropang TNT will still face Rain or Shine, Barangay Ginebra, Mahindra, and San Miguel Beer.
