JAPETH Aguilar refused to pin the blame on Ginebra’s one-week break after every game, which is preventing the team from going into any form or rhythm in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Playing their third straight game where they’re coming off a six-day layoff, the Gin Kings fell into an early hole and put up a fightback that fell short, resulting in a 91-84 loss to GlobalPort on Sunday night.

But Aguilar stressed the odd schedule is not an excuse not to perform at their best, and instead should be used to their advatange.

“Actually dun nga yung may opportunity kami para mag-practice nang maayos,” Aguilar said as the Gin Kings lost for the second time in three games. “It's frustrating talaga, last game nung panalo namin sa TNT, we were like really practicing hard.”

“Kailangan learning experience 'tong talo na 'to, kailangan matuto kami,” he added.

Aguilar, though, welcomed the slight change in schedule as the Gin Kings return to action just five days later, taking on Mahindra on Friday night also at the Big Dome.

“Mas gusto ko para we can play right away, para makabawi agad sa pagkatalo namin,” Aguilar said. “Losses like these, minsan nanggigil ka tapos nagiging impatient ka sa game.”

On Sunday, Aguilar was one of the few bright spots for the Gin Kings, tallying 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting, eight boards, three assists, and two blocks in 38 minutes.

However, the last Governors’ Cup champions failed to get the job done as a unit, to the disappointment of coach Tim Cone.

“After the game, during the huddle, coach Tim told us, parang bagong team kami,” Aguilar said. “Porket panalo kami last game, we think that, we can beat Global individually kasi parang umpisa pa lang, parang gusto namin makapag-engage in a one-on-one battle.”

“So kailangan talaga naming di lang talaga basta magpakita sa game, kailangan alam namin rin yung mga gagawin namin,” he added.
