Japeth Aguilar concedes Talk `N Text playing better as a team than Ginebra heading to KO match

JAPETH Aguilar is aware Barangay Ginebra will be playing a different animal in Talk `N Text in their PBA Philippine Cup knockout game on Tuesday for the right to take on San Miguel in the best-of-seven semifinals.

Aguilar noted how his former team has transformed into a title contender from the time the Kings beat the Tropang Texters, 101-81, during the opener of the All-Filipino tournament two months ago at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

“Sobrang iba, tapos kumpleto pa sila (Tropang Texters) ngayon.  Ibang iba yung laro nila from our opening game, at talagang nag-improve sila kaya kailangan namin silang paghandaan sa practice,” said Aguilar, who flirted with a double-double in the team’s quarterfinal victory over Globalport with 19 points and nine rebounds.

The Kings eliminated the Batang Pier, 95-78.

While the 6-foot-9 Aguilar believes Ginebra has the talent, he sees the Tropang Texters as having an edge as far as team chemistry is concerned.

“Actually, nasa chemistry ng team nila eh dahil di nga sila gaano katangkaran pero they can kill you in any part kasi shooters ang mga bigs nila,” he added.

The ability of Talk `N Text’s big men to shoot from the outside is expected to stretch Ginebra’s interior defense manned by Aguilar and frontline tandem Greg Slaughter.

Jay Washington and Ranidel de Ocampo, both playing the ‘four-spot’, averaged a combined three three-point conversions per contest this season.

The 6-foot-7 Washington, an offseason pickup, averages 10.4 points per game, while shooting 33.9 percent from beyond the arc.

On the other hand, de Ocampo, a Gilas mainstay, norms 11.9 points this season and is averaging 39.3 percent shooting from three-point range.
