James Yap uncertain for quarterfinals decider as ROS star opts to rest minor hamstring injury

RAIN or Shine will continue to miss the services of veteran star James Yap in the PBA Governors Cup, not unless the Elasto Painters manage to go deep into the playoffs of the season-ending meet.

Yap missed his second straight game with the team Wednesday during its quarterfinal game against no. 2 seed TnT Katropa. And while the Elasto Painters forced a deciding do-or-die game on Friday, 106-102, coach Caloy Garcia doesn’t see the league’s two-time MVP suiting up for seventh-seeded Rain or Shine in winner-take-all match.

According to team doctor, Yap’s condition is day to day.

“I think he’ll be able to make it if we go far,” said Garcia during the post-game interview. “But for Friday’s game, malabo pa siya.”

Yap suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of Rain or Shine’s final game in the eliminations against Blackwater, which the team won, 122-98.

Garcia said it’s only a minor injury but Yap had been advised by doctors to rest the injury.

“Yung hamstring niya, pero wala naman tear. It’s just minor lang naman,” said the Rain or Shine coach.
