RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao is open to the idea of trading a first-round pick for expansion team Kia Motors in the coming PBA Annual Draft.

“Puwede naming pag-usapan `yun,” said Guiao.

The Elasto Painters own the No. 2 and No. 9 picks in the August 24 draft, but the scarcity of a quality big men in this year’s rookie batch has prompted the team to consider a trade should Kia make the approach.

Kia, which won’t be selecting until the No. 12 pick overall, has already expressed its intention to use its first-ever draft right on boxing hero Manny Pacquiao, who has been named the team's head coach.

But with the possibility of other teams throwing a monkey wrench into Kia's plans by drafting Pacquiao early in the proceedings, the Columbian Autocar Corp.-owned franchise has considered the possibility of trading up in the draft order.

Guaio sees where Kia Motors is coming from.

“Hindi malabong mangyari 'yun, kasi wala ka namang batas na lalabagin pag kinuha mo si Pacquiao sa first round,” said the fiery coach.

“Alam mo 'yung i-draft si Manny ng ibang teams, tapos i-te-trade sa Kia for their future pick, pwedeng mangyari 'yun. Within the rules eh. Legal na legal 'yun. Kasi hindi mo pwedeng pigilan ang ibang teams na mag-strategize ng ganun eh.

Guiao admitted the draft rights of Kia and another expansion team, Blackwater Sports, should prove valuable considering the projected talent available for the 2015 draft.

“Syempre, ang daming talent na papasok next year. So i-a-anticipate na ng iba na Kia o Ever Bilena ang pwedeng mag one-two (sa draft) next year,” he said.

Guiao himself said he will consider drafting Pacquiao if he’s still available by the time Rain or Shine’s second turn comes at No. 9 overall.
