ANTHONY Semerad emerged the unlikely hero in a Sunday shootout, hitting the go-ahead three-pointer as GlobalPort outlasted Meralco, 126-123, in two overtimes for its first win in five games in the PBA Governors Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Semerad capped a career-high 24-point performance by hitting the corner trey - his sixth of the night - that enabled the Batang Pier to put away a game which they appeared to have wrapped up late in regulation and in the first overtime.

In the ensuing play, Jonathan Uyloan missed a last-gasp heave for the Bolts.

The former San Beda standout's heroics spared GlobalPort blushes after the team lost a six-point lead, 100-94, in the final 20 seconds of overtime and failed to hold on to a two-point lead late in the first extra time.

"After last conference a lof of adjustments ginawa namin. We had a new system and ngayon lang nag-work. Sana magtuloy-tuloy na," said new GlobalPort coach Johnedel Cardel.

Import Michael Glover topscored for the Batang Pier with 26 points to go with 16 rebounds, while Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle added 24 and 15, respectively.

GlobalPort looked like it had the game in the bag in regulation, but a Cliff Hodge triple and an import Allen Durham three-point play in the final 20 seconds tied the count at 100-all.

Hodge then blocked Pringle's potential game-winning floateras time expired to send the game into overtime.

Both teams traded baskets in the extra period, but it was GlobalPort who had the chance to claime the win, only to botch it anew when Pringle's last-gasp reverse layup rimmed out, 114-all.

Meralco put to waste import Durham's 55-point effort and dropped to a 3-3 win-loss record.

The masked reinforcement also got little help from his teammates, with only Bryan Faundo and Chris Newsome finishing in double figures with 12 and 10, respectively.
