GLOBALPORT's young backcourt got an added veteran presence with the acquisition of Mike Cortez in a trade with Blackwater on Wednesday.

The Elite sent the 13-year pro to the Batang Pier for young wingman Ronald Pascual in a one-on-one deal.

The trade papers have already been sent to the Commissioner's Office.

Pascual attended his first practice with the Elite also on Thursday where he was fitted for a playing jersey.

The arrival of Cortez at Globalport gives more stability to the team's backcourt centered around the explosive duo of Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle.

At the same time, Cortez will be reunited with college coach and current Batang Pier consultant Franz Pumaren, with whom the 'Cool Cat' won two UAAP men's basketball titles.

Pascual, meanwhile, brings added firepower to a Blackwater side that counts on the young core of Carlo Lastimosa, rookies Arthur dela Cruz and Roi Sumang, Jerrick Canada, Reil Cervantes, and injured big man JP Erram.

Recently, the Elite signed veteran free agent point guard Denok Miranda for the rest of the season-ending Governors Cup, making Cortez dispensable.
