Global Cebu FC rips Beoungket Angkor, joins Ceres in knockout round of AFC Cup

GLOBAL Cebu FC barged into the zonal semifinals of the 2017 AFC Cup after edging out Beoungket Angkor FC 3-1 on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The People's Club topped Group F with 15 points to join domestic rival Ceres Negros FC in the knockout phase which will start on May 16 and 17.

Paul Mulders opened the scoring in the 12th minute as he calmly sent his ball past 'keeper Sou Yaty much to the delight of home fans in attendance.

Hikaru Minegeshi then doubled the lead in the 28th minute as Darryl Roberts exposed a mistake in the Cambodian side and fed his Japanese teammate inside the box.

"It feels good to be on top of the group. It's the first time a team got all 15 points. This is good for Filipino football," said Mulders who was named man of the match.

"I'm happy with how I performed, I just wanna control the position and the ball. I just wanna try to help my teammates. We just have to work on it," he added.

Sath Rosib pulled one back for the visiting side five minutes after the interval, but the Cebuano side put the match away when an overlapping OJ Clarino found Roberts in the box for the dagger.
