BARANGAY Ginebra has locked up a future star forward and the rest of its bench frontline to new deals.

The Gin Kings have signed Art dela Cruz to a two-year contract, while renewing the respective contracts of Jervy Cruz, Raymond Aguilar, and Jammer Jamito.

Assistant team manager Reyboy Rodriguez confirmed the development after the team’s first practice on Thursday, saying they are also set to re-sign Joe Devance when the Ginebra utility man returns from the US where he is still on vacation and recovering from foot surgery.

“Upon arrival (ni Joe),” Rodriguez said. “Nasa States pa siya eh.”

Dela Cruz, traded from Blackwater near the end of the Governors’ Cup, is grateful for getting a two-year deal even after being sidelined for eight months due to an Achilles injury.

“From being injured, thankful ako na two years binigay sa akin ng Ginebra,” Dela Cruz said in a chat with SPIN.ph. “I’ll try my best na hindi nila pagsisihan yung risk na tinake nila.”

“Slowly, but surely, I’ll try my best na ma-earn yung trust ni coach Tim,” he added. “Right now, we’ll be practicing twice a day para makuha ko yung rhythm ko and also yung plays, executions niya."

The Gin Kings are expecting a lot from Dela Cruz, the former San Beda star who averaged 13.8 points, seven rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.4 steals in 31.1 minutes in the last Philippine Cup before going down with his injury right in the first day of Gilas camp.

“Big expectations ng tao, but I hope magampanan ko, mabigay ko yung expectations nila sa akin,” Dela Cruz said.
