Ginebra revives PBA playoff hopes with crucial road win over NLEX in Legazpi City

BARANGAY Ginebra finally got back on the winning track in the PBA Commssioner's Cup, ending a three-game slide at the expense of NLEX, 93-85, in a road game at the Ibalong Centrum in Legazpi City.

The Gin Kings needed a monster game from Justin Brownlee to do that as the two-time champion shrugged off a bad shooting night to finish with 23 points, 22 rebounds and seven assists.

Brownlee also presided over Ginebra's crucial breakway at the start of the final period. His dunk with 8:41 left capped a 9-0 run that gave the Kings their biggest lead of the night at 85-66.

The win moved the league's most popular team to 10th place at 2-5 and the Kings have four games to work their way back to the top eight which will make the playoffs.

The Kings are a full game behind Phoenix and GlobalPort who are at seventh and eighth place, respectively, with 3-4 records. NLEX dropped to 11th place with a 2-6 record.

Japeth Aguilar added 13 points and two blocked shots while Greg Slaughter finished with a double double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Arnett Moultrie led the Road Warriors with 30 points and 19 boards in a losing effort as Eman Monfort added 14.

NLEX 85 – Moultrie 30, Monfort 14, Soyud 8, Quinahan 5, Miranda 5, Mallari 4, Gotladera 4, Uyloan 3, Baguio 3, Fonacier 3, Marcelo 2, Tiongson 2, Rios 2, Ighalo 0.

Quarterscores: 22-16; 41-35; 75-66; 93-85.
