Help on the way for Ginebra as Slaughter may soon be available on 'minutes restriction'

GREG Slaughter is obviously not yet 100 percent but could already be available for Barangay Ginebra in its next game in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Coach Tim Cone disclosed the 7-foot Slaughter may be able to suit up for the Kings when they go up against Blackwater this Friday at the Alonte Sports Arena in Laguna.

The Ginebra big man missed the playoffs of the Philippine Cup and the first two games of the team this conference as he recovers from a severe sprained ankle.

“There’s a possibility he might play Friday,” said Cone after the team’s 96-92 loss to TnT Katropa at the Mall of Asia on Sunday night.

If ever the 29-year-old product of Ateneo finally gets going, the Ginebra coach said his playing time will only be on a limited basis.

“Obviously if he plays, he will be on a minutes restriction,” he said. “We won’t play him full minutes, probably 20-24 minutes if he plays his first game. And needless to say we have to be very careful with him we don’t want him to go down again.”

Now everything will all depend on how Slaughter will respond in the team’s practices this week.

“He still has to get through a few more days of practice and see how he is,” Cone said. "We’ll see how he does this week. And maybe he’ll play on Friday.

“Right now that’s to say that’s probably less than 50-50.”
