BOCAUE, Bulacan - Japeth Aguilar did nothing really special before Sunday's marquee Christmas game at the Philippine Arena.

But Aguilar was extraordinary on both ends in Ginebra's 86-79 win over rival Star, finishing with a career-high 32 points on top of 12 rebounds and two blocks.

Was it because of something he ate during Noche Buena? Aguilar didn't think so.

"Actually the traditional hamon, keso de bola spaghetti, at ube lang kinain ko kagabi," said Aguilar.

"Dami ko nga nakain actually. I ate pa nung 12 midnight."

The lanky forward also said that he was really focused on defense as per the instruction of Ginebra coach Tim Cone.

The offense just followed suit, added the 6-foot-9 forward after going a perfect 5-of-5 from the three-point area.

"I was surprised, pati sa offensive performance ko. Kasi my focus talaga to be honest was on defense because Coach Tim wanted na sakin manggaling," he said.

"This is one of those moments in my basketball career na never did I expect, 5 out of 5 from the three-point line."

Right now, Aguilar and the rest of the team will make the most of a more or less two-week break but will make sure they won't get out of shape.

"We're just get as much rest and as much hopefully di kami mawala sa kondisyon," he said.
