GILAS Pilipinas is calling on all basketball-crazy fans to show their support for the country’s Fiba World Cup hosting bid by attending a rally on Friday noon at the red gate of the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

On the same day the country celebrates Independence Day, more than 2,000 people are expected to converge outside the Big Dome ahead of the country’s final bid presentation to Fiba on August 8.

Former Gilas skipper and now assistant coach Jimmy Alapag will lead the rally that starts at 12:30 p.m. along with other national teammates, PBA stars, and TV5 personalities.

“This is an opportunity to show how passionate we are about the game and how big it would be not just for Philippine basketball, but for Philippine sports, and our entire country to have the World Cup here,” Alapag said.

The hosting bid is down to two countries in the Philippines and China.

T-shirts and PBA tickets are expected to be given away.

Patricia Hizon, the project lead for the Fiba World Cup bid presentation, said they will document the rally and somehow include it in their presentation to the world’s basketball governing body.
