Flu-stricken RR Garcia helpless on bench as TNT's own 'RR' Pogoy goes berserk

SAN Miguel Beer’s own “RR” felt helpless as he saw TNT Katropa’s “RR” put up a career performance in the Texters’ 98-92 win over San Miguel Beer in Game Three of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series on Sunday night.

While Roger Ray “RR” Pogoy registered a career-high 22 points to help the Texters take a 2-1 lead in the series, Ryan Roose “RR” Garcia was on the sidelines, recovering from a flu.

Garcia insisted he was ready to play after being under the weather in the days following Game Two, but SMB coach Leo Austria deemed it fit to keep him on the bench.

“Sa sarili ko, gusto ko talaga maglaro, kaso wala eh, hindi ako nakapag-practice kahapon,” Garcia said. “Desisyon nila coach ‘yun.”

“Pinagpahinga na lang ako. Kahapon hindi na ako pinag-practice, he added. “By next game, makakapaglaro na ako. Babawi kami.”

Garcia could only praise Pogoy, his former Far Eastern University teammate, for putting up a breakout offensive performance for the Texters.

“Oo nga, kinakantyawan ko naman,” Garcia said. ‘Pag sinuwerte ka, tuluy tuloy yan. Pag malas ka, malas ka talaga.”

And SMB’s own “RR” hopes to reprise his role as the team’s sixth man in Game Four on Tuesday.

“By next game makakapaglaro na ako,” Garcia said.
