Flu-hit June Mar Fajardo delivers the numbers - and gets needed rest - in blowout loss

SAN Miguel star June Mar Fajardo was feeling a bit under the weather before Game One of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals against Ginebra on Friday.

But that didn't stop him from being as dominant as ever inside the lane as San Miguel pounded out a lopsided 109-82 win at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The 6-10 SMB star missed practice on the eve of the finals because of flu-like symptoms, but that didn't stop him from scoring 17 points on top of eight rebounds, two assists, and three blocks.

"Nanghihina ako bago yung laro, masakit yung dito ko pag malamig," said the gentle giant from Cebu, pointing to his nose.

Fajardo, though, felt a lot better after the game. Not only did SMB win, he also got plenty of rest after playing just 22:38 minutes - well under his usual mileage during games.

"Maganda yung rotation namin e. Nasunod namin game plan namin at na-stop namin opensa nila," said Fajardo, who had the luxury of watching the final stretch from the bench.

Fajardo hopes the Beermen will play the way they did on Friday when the two teams square off in Game Two on Sunday in Lucena.

"Sana kung ano nilaro namin ngayon yun din ilalaro namin next game. Focus lang at pahinga ng mabuti para fresh sa Sunday," he said.
