Daquioag's two-year Meralco deal, Chris Javier contract with Star among last-minute signings
Ed Daquioag signs his two-year contract in the presence of Meralco governor Al Panlilio and team manager Paolo Trillo.

ED Daquioag became the last of the Gilas cadet draftees to come to terms with his PBA team when he signed a two-year deal with the Meralco Bolts on Wednesday.

Terms were not disclosed after the signing of the former University of Santo Tomas stalwart witnessed by Meralco board of governor Al Panlilio, team manager Paolo Trillo, and Marvin Espiritu of EMBM, which represents Daquioag.

The contract was supposed to be signed as early as last week, but had to be deferred as the Bolts played in a mini-pocket tournament held in Cebu, where sister-team NLEX also saw action.

With Daquioag under contract, all members of the Gilas cadet pool which were picked during a special draft last October 30 had already been signed.

Those who previously signed were Mac Belo (Blackwater), Matthew Wright (Phoenix), Kevin Ferrer (Ginebra), Jio Jalalon (Star), Arnold Van Opstal (San Miguel), Russel Escoto (Mahindra), Roger Pogoy (TNT Katropa), Von Pessumal (Globalport), Carl Bryan Cruz (Alaska), Alfonso Gotladera (NLEX), and Mike Tolomia (Rain or Shine).

Big man Chris Javier, meanwhile, is also set to sign a two-year contract with the Star Hotshots on Thursday.

Daquioag and Javier are just the few late-signings before the PBA officially opens its 42nd season with the Philippine Cup this Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
