ANTIPOLO – San Miguel Beer coaching staff chose to keep their thoughts to themselves after the Beermen suffered their first loss in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday night.

SMB coach Leo Austria declined to grant an interview after the Beermen lost to Phoenix, 92-85, after seeing their comeback from 14 points down entering the fourth fall short.

June Mar Fajardo led the late stand, finishing with 19 points and 23 boards, and ended up as one of four Beermen who played at least 35 minutes, the other being Alex Cabagnot, Chris Ross, and Arwind Santos.

The Beermen got a double whammy as David Semerad suffered an injury, needing to be helped off the court after coming out with over four minutes left in the second quarter, never to return.

A team staff said the Filipino-Australian forward hurt his Achilles tendon in the play that saw him commit a foul against Phoenix rookie Matthew Wright.

“Yun na lang muna,” the team staff said as helped Semerad out of the venue. “Pinagbawalan kasi mga players magpa-interview for tonight lang naman.”
