Misfiring Calvin Abueva rues Alaska Aces lacked sense of urgency

CALVIN Abueva rued Alaska falling into complacency against Meralco in Game Four of their PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series.

With a game to spare, the Aces saw the Bolts blow them out with an 86-70 decision that sent the best-of-five series into sudden death.

“Ngayon, parang ayun na naman gaya ng dati, relax na naman,” Abueva said. “Pero talagang ganun, malas talaga eh.”

“Pero sa next game siguro makakabawi tayo,” the Aces star was quick to add.

Abueva showed his usual energy and hustle, but failed to find the mark as he missed nine of his 11 shots to score only 10 points, although he had four boards, three steals, and two assists in 27 minutes off the bench.

The Aces shot poorly as a unit, making just 25 of their 75 shots for a dismal 33 percent.

“Oo nga e, talagang low percentage,” Abueva said. “Kahit ako, talagang di gumana 'yung (opensa) ko. May nararamdaman akong konti pero okay lang.”

Abueva declined to expound on his apparent minor injury.

“Wala, wala, pero okay lang,” the Best Player of the Conference candidate said. “Makakabawi tayo sa Wednesday. Do-or-die, talagang para finals talaga bibigay na lahat.”
