ATENEO coach Bo Perasol playfully said Kiefer Ravena’s 21-point explosion in the first quarter against National University was 'chamba,' but was the 'bad shots' were falling for the King Eagle.

Ravena set the tone for the Blue Eagles' 68-59 win over the Bulldogs on Sunday by scoring the team's first 21 points and hitting six successive three-pointers. He wound up with a personal season-high of 32 points, two shy of the season best of 34 set by University of Santo Tomas guard Ed Daquioag.

During the postgame press conference, Perasol poked fun at Ravena.

“Let me commend Kiefer because the reason why he was taking those shots was because his ankle was hurting,” Perasol said laughing. “Buti na lang pumasok. Kung hindi, bad shot lahat ‘yun.”

Ravena was asked about his shooting performance but before the Ateneo star could respond, Perasol said “chamba.”

“Hindi ko rin alam,” Ravena said to answer the question. “I was just in a zone. Sabi nga ni coach, bad shot ‘yun.”

Ravena said there is also some truth to Perasol’s statement that an ankle injury he sustained on Wednesday in a midweek game against University of Santo Tomas made him go to his outside shot early.

“Wala pa akong explosiveness kasi minadali ‘yung ankle ko. Na-injure ako last Wednesday and had to prepare against a very tough NU team. I was 70 to 75 percent for this game," said the reigning league MVP.

“Thankful ako na nanalo kami. I guess it was one of those nights. I was taking off-balance shots. Buti na lang, gina-guide ni Lord ‘yung bola,” said Ravena.

Ravena combined with Von Pessumal to score 52 of Ateneo's points, but Pessumal was quick to deflect the credit.

“Kiefer dominated the first quarter. He could have easily scored 50 but he played to win. He did basketball plays that helped us win,” said Pessumal.
