Fajardo takes sweet time to rest after grind-out battle with TNT bigs: 'Nakakapagod, di biro yun'

AFTER their 104-88 blowout victory over TNT Katropa on Saturday that sent their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series to a deciding game, San Miguel Beer players and staff—one by one—emerged from their dugout until one person remained.

June Mar Fajardo was still leaning on his space in the locker room, half-naked with only his playing shorts on, and with his legs raised and perched on a seat.

After towing the Beermen with the 11th 20-20 game of his career, the SMB superstar took his sweet time to rest, so much so that girlfriend Aerieal had to check him out inside and jokingly asked how longer he was going to keep her waiting.

For Fajardo, the win over the Texters was anything but breezy after seeing Texters big men Kelly Williams, Mo Tautuaa, and Frank Golla taking turns defending him.

“Nakakapagod, ‘di biro ‘yun, ang lalaki nila. Si Kelly tapos Mo pa tapos nandun pa si Frank, so syempre nakakapagod tapos pick and rolls,” Fajardo insisted after playing over 35 minutes.

“Kailangan gamitin pahinga ng maayos kasi nandito na kami,” he added. “Sayang kung papakawalan namin and ibang teams gusto makarating sa ganitong sitwasyon tapos kami nandito, sayang kung di namin bibigyan ng magandang laban.”

Despite carrying a ton of load on both ends, Fajardo deflected credit to his teammates, with Arwind Santos, Alex Cabagnot, and RR Garcia all providing significant support.

“Maganda yung executions namin ng plays nung second half at maganda yung kinalabasan,” Fajardo said. “Kailangan lang namin i-execute yung mga plays namin, ayun.”

“Gumagalaw kami then gumagalaw din yung depensa kaya nababakante ako at nababakante din yung teammates ko,” he added as the Beermen brace for another all-out battle in Game Seven, but until then, Fajardo can rest.

“Kailangan namin magpahinga, kailangan mag-recharge,” Fajardo said. “Practice kami bukas. Sundin namin mga plays namin at kaya naman namin manalo.”
