Beau Belga says 0-2 start a 'wake-up call' for Rain or Shine ahead of Dubai matches

WIN one game at a time.

That’s the mindset Beau Belga and the rest of Rain or Shine team have brought with them to Dubai where they hope to finally break into the win column of the PBA Governors Cup in back-to-back games against GlobalPort and Barangay Ginebra.

Belga admitted Rain or Shine has been less than stellar in the team’s first two games, dropping a 104-91 decision to San Miguel before losing to Alaska by a hairline, 95-94.

“Ayaw ko muna isipin na kayang-kaya namin lahat. Walang madali ngayon sa PBA. We just have to prepare hard and start with that against GlobalPort,” Belga told before the team left for the Middle East country on Monday.

The outspoken Rain or Shine big man said losing two straight game should serve as a wake-up call for a team that is just three weeks removed from a runner-up finish in the Commissioner’s Cup.

“It’s (back-to-back losses) a wake-up call for us. Di puwedeng mag-hang lang kami for survival,” he added.

The Elasto Painters will play the Batang Pier on Thursday at the Al Shabab Al Arabi Club. The following day, they test the mettle of the short-handed Kings.

“Kung worse-case scenario, makaisa man lang sa Dubai, huwag lang kami ma-two straight (defeat). Pero siyempre mas maganda isiping manalo kami (twice),” added the heavyweight slotman.

Wide-bodied import Wendell McKines has been leading the team with averages of 21.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, and 1.5 assists during the team’s first two outings.

However, the former New Mexico standout is making only 44 percent of his free throws while making 4.0 turnovers per game.

Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao said the two Dubai games will decide the fate of McKines since the team will have a one-week break after the overseas stint, giving it enough time to act on a likely replacement.

Guiao said he has no complaints about McKines' games, although he added, "the bottom line is, nananalo ba ang team? That will eventually weigh on our decision."
