RoS slump gives Beau Belga compelling reason to be more aggressive on offense

WITH Rain or Shine uncharacteristically finding itself on a losing streak in the PBA Governors Cup, Beau Belga felt it was the right time for him to take matters into his own hands.

The burly power forward known for his defensive prowess was active on offense for the second straight game, contributing immensely to the Elasto Painters’ 103-88 win over Mahindra that arrested the team’s two-game skid on Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Belga was the second top local scorer for the team in the 15-point win with 13 points, marking the second time he finished in double figures in scoring for Rain or Shine. He had 17 in a 101-99 loss to Globalport in Legaspi City last week.

The veteran big said he needed to take charge on offense as the team lost back-to-back games against Ginebra Kings and the Batang Pier.

“Encourage ko talaga yung sarili ko na maging (agresibo) sa game especially sa offense. The past few games kasi pasa ako ng pasa, sabi ko (sa sarili ko) subukan naman natin tumira.”

Although import Dior Lowhorn was a big help for the Elasto Painters, Belga agreed with coach Yeng Guiao that he doesn’t fit into a team which just won the Commissioner’s Cup championship last conference.

“Kay Dior kasi hinahanap namin siya, kaya nawala yung focus sa mga locals,” he stressed.

With replacement import Jason Forte still to adjust to the Elasto Painters’ style of play after joining the team just days ago, it was the locals who stepped up in the win over the Enforcer, including Belga himself.

“Tried and tested naman yung team namin. Kahit nag-struggle kami, darating din yung time na we’ll get back our rhythm,” he said.

“Kaya sa akin, it’s time na mag step-up. Basta magkakasama-sama kami,” Belga added.
