Terrence Romeo's individual brilliance laid to waste by balanced Alaska attack

TERRENCE Romeo believes it was just one of those days for Alaska, which dealt GlobalPort a 123-104 beating on Friday in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The Aces had a field day as remarkably eight players scored in twin digits while shooting 51 percent from the field.

“Lahat naman ng tira nila contested eh, kaso talagang pumapasok,” Romeo said. “Nagkataon lang din na maganda talaga yung laro ng mga bigs nila. 'Yung mga bigs namin, nakaka-depensa naman eh.”

While Vic Manuel, Sonny Thoss, and Calvin Abueva delivered their usual offensive numbers, Eric Menk provided an unlikely boost with 12 points in 22 minutes.

The balanced effort proved too good for Romeo’s individual brilliance that saw him pump in a conference-high-tying 33 points in 36 minutes.

The 23-year-old Gilas Pilipinas standout carried most of the load in lieu of backcourt partner Stanley Pringle, who was held to just 16 markers on 10 attempts.

“Nakaka-shoot kami pero nakakabawi yung kalaban,” Romeo said. “Siguro kailangan pa namin i-prove yung team defense namin.”
