Arwind Santos on mindset when playing Ginebra: 'Kailangan talaga huwag kang kukurap'
Arwind Santos says SMB can't lower its guard for a second when playing Ginebra: “Kaya nga yung words na never-say-die nakatatak sa kanila,” he says. Jaime Campos

ARWIND Santos was quick to remind San Miguel Beer not to lower its guard when playing Barangay Ginebra.

Even for just a second.

“Kailangan talaga huwag kang kukurap,” the former league MVP stressed. “Kasi minsan pag nakurap ka, magugulat ka na lang nasaksak ka na pala.”

The Kings almost did that to the Beermen for the second straight time, barely falling short after the reigning champions survived a gritty Ginebra comeback to post a thrilling 95-92 win and knot at 1-1 their PBA Governors Cup semifinals battle.

The lanky forward only finished with seven points on 3-of-10 shooting in Game Two. But he was active on the defensive end by grabbing nine rebounds, providing hustle plays, and helping hold Ginebra import Justin Brownlee to a conference-low 18 points after exploding for 39 – a conference best - in the series opener.

Still, Game Two wasn’t decided until Brownlee missed a game-tying three-pointer in the final play of the match.

That everything ended that way it did despite San Miguel enjoying as much as a 16-point lead earlier no longer came as a surprise for Santos.

“Kaya nga yung words na never-say-die nakatatak sa kanila,” he said. “Alam naman natin ang Ginebra hindi basta-basta madaling talunin.”

‘The Spiderman’ expects nothing less when the two tangles anew in Game Three this Friday.
