Al Chua vows to stay neutral in 'win-win' PBA Finals between SMB and Ginebra
“With boss RSA, he’s just happy that both teams (are in the finals),” says SMC sports director and concurrent Ginebra governor Al Chua. “Walang kinakampihan yun. Sabi lang niya, ‘May the best team win. Kung sinong manalo, alam na nila ‘yun.’” Jerome Ascano

SAN Miguel Corp. sports director Alfrancis Chua assured that SMC big boss Ramon S. Ang has no preference between PBA Philippine Cup Finals protagonists San Miguel Beer and Barangay Ginebra.

The Beermen are seeking a third straight all-Filipino championship that comes with the Perpetual trophy, while the Gin Kings are aiming for back-to-back titles after ruling the Governors’ Cup and their first all-Filipino crown in a decade.

Whoever wins the series, starting with Game One on Friday night, it’s a win-win situation for the company.

Asked what special prize the winner will get from the man they either address as RSA or plain 'Boss,' Chua initially joked there was nothing special to be given, obviously alluding to TNT coach Nash Racela’s statement that the Beermen were getting “special treatment” during their semifinal series.

“Actually walang special. Tinawag na kaming ‘special’ dati, palagay ko wala ng special ngayon,” the SMC sports director said before turning serious during the press launch of the finals at Sambokojin, Eastwood.

“With boss RSA, he’s just happy that both teams (are in the finals),” he said. “Walang kinakampihan yun. Sabi lang niya, ‘May the best team win. Kung sinong manalo, alam na nila ‘yun.’”

Chua, himself, will show fairness as the concurrent Ginebra governor said he won’t sit on the Gin Kings bench.

“I’m going to stay in the middle para impartial yung laban,” he said. “I’m inviting all the fans. It’s going to be a very good series. Sa dalawang team namin, may the best team win.”

“Alam ko hindi malulungkot yung mga fans. Alam ko mapupuno yung coliseum, and it’s very good for the PBA,” he added.

SMB governor Robert Non echoed his counterpart’s sentiments.

“Tuwang-tuwa naman kami dahil both of our SMC teams are in the finals. Nanggaling naman din ako sa Ginebra eh so parehong kong mahal tong team na ‘to,” the former Ginebra governors said.

“It will, I think, boil down to a Game Seven, kasi ‘tong dalawang teams na ‘to, eager to get the championship, especially SMB, who’s gunning for the Perpetual trophy,” he added. “May the best team win.”
