IT’S just Game One of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals and a lot of things are likely to happen that Calvin Abueva is keeping expectations in check as far as Alaska’s run for the All-Filipino Cup title is concerned.

"Hindi ko pa masabi marami pang dadaanan, Game One pa lang," Abueva confided to following the Aces’ come-from-behind 87-80 win over Rain or Shine in the opener of their best-of-seven series Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“Hindi pa natin masasabi iba rin 'yung Rain or Shine, hahabol ng hahabol 'yan kaya kailangan mag adjust sa depensa.”

‘The Beast’, who played a big part in the Aces’ closing 14-3 run that clinched the win for the team,  finished with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Yet despite the morale-boosting win and a 1-0 lead in the series, Abueva said the Aces still need to be prepared for a fight back from the Elasto Painters in Saturday’s Game Two.

The lessons of the Governors Cup semis series after all, still lingers in the mind of the former Rookie of the Year.

The Aces held a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-five series before the Elasto Painters rallied back and swept the last two remaining games to clinch a berth in the Finals opposite San Mig Coffee.

“Basta importante ngayon eh, kung ano lang ang nilalaro namin ngayon hihigitan pa namin,” said Abueva.
