JUST days after two big trades went down one after the other in the PBA, another deal is being made.
Intent on rebuilding its personnel, Meralco is now working on reviving a long-stagnant trade with Air21 Express that hopefully would land them one more shooter and another big man to fortify its frontline.
According to team insiders, the Bolts have offered Mark Borboran and rookie Vic Manuel to the Express in order to finally get their hands on former top rookie pick Noy Baclao and gunner John Wilson.
The offer, however, has been thumbed down by Air21 which according to sources has countered by asking for Manuel and high-flying Rey Guevarra for Wilson and Baclao.
After a series of offers and counter-offers, the deal currently on the table and awaiting approval will have Wilson, Baclao, and James Sena going to the Bolts camp in exchange for Guevarra, Manuel, and veteran big man Carlo Sharma.
The same source said the final draft is now awaiting the approval of Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio, who is in Lithuania with the Gilas Pilipinas in its two-week training camp.
The long-mothballed deal between the two ballclubs actually involved Ronjay Buenafe and Bolts big man Jay-R Reyes when it was first discussed in January.
Buenafe has since been dealt to Barako Bull in a three-team swap on Monday night that saw Talk 'N Text getting Sean Anthony, Jared Dillinger and Don Allado joining Meralco, and seldom-used Gilbert Bulawan joining Buenafe at the Energy Cola camp.
Dillinger's status is unclear after the spitfire figured in a car accident that ruled him out of the Gilas team to the Fiba-Asia championships, and Meralco may need a scorer like Wilson in its lineup until Dillinger gets healthy.
On Tuesday, another three-team trade was consummated that saw Japeth Aguilar join Ginebra, Jay Washington, rookie Yousif Taha move to Globalport, Elmer Espiritu to Barako Bull, and rookie Jason Deutchman go to Petron.
