WILLIAM Navarro once again didn't see action but Busan KCC Egis nonetheless punched a ticket to the semifinals after completing a sweep of Ethan Alvano’s Wonju DB Promy in their Korean Basketball League quarterfinals series on Friday.
Navarro has yet to see action throughout the series, but Busan didn’t miss a beat, fending off DB Promy with a 98-89 home win to formally book a semifinal clash against Rhenz Abando’s Anyang KGC.
The closeout game started as a tightly contested affair, with neither side able to create significant separation in the first half as DB Promy tried to extend their season.
However, the Egis flipped the switch coming out of the break, unleashing a telling 20-9 run in the third quarter to turn a slim margin into a comfortable cushion.
That surge proved to be the turning point, as Busan imposed its tempo and dictated the pace the rest of the way, keeping DB Promy at bay en route to the series-clinching win.
With the sweep, the sixth-seeded Busan heads into the semifinals riding momentum, setting the stage for an all-Filipino import showdown between Navarro and Abando, if the former Gilas Pilipinas forward sees minutes.
On the other hand, KBL Top 5 member Alvano closed out his stellar season on a high note, tallying 19 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and one steal in the losing effort.
