NOT unless the matter is raised, issues concerning Gilas Pilipinas will not be discussed when the PBA board convenes for its annual planning session on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan.
The agenda for the four-day meeting does not include concerns about the PBA-backed national squad even in the wake of withdrawals to hit the Gilas team bound for the Fiba-Asia Men’s Championship next month.
Instead, what is calendared to be discussed are the financial report for the league’s recently-concluded 40th season, budget, and the plans and programs for the 2016 campaign including a possible revision of the format.
“Hindi lang natin alam kung may mag-raise ng topic regarding the national team,” said one league insider, who refused to be named as he’s not authorize to officially in speak on behalf of the board.
Spin.ph had earlier reported that officials belonging to the Manny V. Pangilinan group will lobby in to try and convince fellow governors to release some more players to the Fiba Asia-bound lineup.
Pangilinan, head of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), stayed in the Japanese capital after the vote for the 2019 World Cup hosting along with SBP executive director Sonny Barrios to attend the Fiba board meeting.
The board meeting, to be led by incoming chairman Robert Non, marks the first time league officials will gather under its new corporate set-up, with former commissioner Chito Salud assuming the post as the first ever PBA president and chief executive officer.
Former coach Chito Narvasa will also attend the meeting as his duty as new league commissioner officially begins.
