ANTIPOLO – Not even a win can stop TNT coach Nash Racela from commenting on a violation he committed in the team’s 104-99 decision of Star in their PBA Governors’ Cup mat.chup on Sunday night.
With the Texters up, 91-85, at the seven-minute, 24-second mark of the fourth quarter, Racela was called for a technical foul for entering the court.
What didn’t sit well with the TNT coach was that Hotshots counterpart Chito Victolero appeared to commit the same violation in a different play, but was only slapped a warning
“Tinechnical na naman ako ng mga favorite,” Racela said. “Paano yun? Tinechnical ako nasa loob ako ng court, pero si Chito warning nasa loob ng court. Anong diperensya nun?”
Good thing, the call hardly affected his and his wards’ play as the Texters withstood a late stand by the Hotshots as TNT import Glen Rice Jr. brought them home, scoring his team’s last six points.
Like how he kept his cool after getting the technical, Racela advised Rice to do the same when the import complained about non-calls.
“He was saying we were in penalty while the other team didn't have any fouls in the fourth quarter,” Racela said. “I just reminded him that that refs won't adjust for sure, the only thing we could do is find ways to win. Play through it and play above it. Today we did.”
