Nash Racela hopes for more firepower from Pogoy, Rosario as TNT eyes to tie finals series vs SMB

    Jun 28, 2017
Troy Rosario and Roger Pogoy need to break out of their slumps to help TNT level the PBA Finals series vs SMB.

TNT KaTropa coach Nash Racela is hoping to get more offensive production from not just Roger Pogoy but also Troy Rosario as they seek to tie the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals at two games, taking on San Miguel Beer in Game Four on Wednesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Racela insisted he’s hardly worried that Pogoy was held scoreless for the second straight game as the rookie wingman is still “making the right decisions” and doing his job on defense, but the TNT coach wouldn’t mind Pogoy replicating his 27-point explosion in their Game One win.

“Of course any kind of contribution from anybody will be welcome to the team,” Racela said after practice on the eve of the 7 p.m. matchup. “Right now, Roger’s primary role is to defend their top players, but if he could hit those three-pointers, contribute offensively, that would really help us in the same way if guys start hitting shots tomorrow, makakatulong sa amin.”

Another Texter who should provide more support to Jayson Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo is Rosario, who was also scoreless after being limited to less than four minutes of play in Game Three.

“It’s (Rosario's production) very important to us,” Racela said. “It relieves pressure from sila Jayson, sila Ranidel. I think Troy and Mo (Tautuaa), even Kris Rosales played well in the first game and that was a welcome development for us, so hopefully they contribute the same the next couple of games.”

Racela explained that benching Rosario was merely a ploy to match up better with the Beermen – and not for anything else.

“It’s just part of the experiment,” Racela insisted. “Every game is different. Even you look at San Miguel, ganun din naman sila: different rotations, different guys playing, and (Game Four) will be different again.”

So is Rosario, named to the Gilas Pilipinas’ Southeast Asian Games squad, expected to get more playing time in Game Four?

“Depends on the flow of the game,” Racela said with a grin.

Rosario took the benching in stride, but assured to make the most of the opportunity once he gets called up.

“Ready naman lagi ako eh kung tawagin yung pangalan ko,” the sophomore forward beamed. “Hindi lang siguro ako nagagmit dahil sa naga-adjust din yung kalaban eh, yung matchup talagang tina-try rin ng mga coaches namin i-match yung laki nila.”

“So minsan talaga, merong time na titiisin nila na hindi ako ipasok kasi alam nila yung matchup eh,” he added. “Sila yung mas nakakaalam nung situation sa laro.”

“Pero pag tinawag naman ako, ready naman ako lagi,” Rosario assured.
