MVP on Texters exit: 'Our heads may be bowed in sadness, BUT NOT IN SHAME'

MANNY V. Pangilinan stuck to the positives of TNT KaTropa’s PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals defeat at the hands of Barangay Ginebra.

The Texters team owner took to Twitter to reveal what he told his team at the locker room following the 115-105 Game Four loss that marked the end of the campaign of the MVP group's flagship franchise.

“Went to TNT dugout postgame. Thanked them for their valiant effort. Said we're proud of them, quoted this: "Our heads may be bowed in sadness, BUT NOT IN SHAME,” Pangilinan posted on his account @iamMVP moments after the loss.

After all, the Texters, with their backs against the wall, managed to put up a gallant stand with an all-Filipino lineup most of the game after import Glen Rice Jr. was ejected for shoving Kevin Ferrer and throwing the ball at the Ginebra rookie late in the first quarter.

In Game Three, the Texters kept it close throughout and lost by just three points despite the Gin Kings taking a huge 43-14 lead in free-throw attempts – a fact that Ginebra coach Tim Cone attributed to his team’s aggressiveness.

If that’s the case, then Texters coach Nash Racela feels his team needs “to have more players who are more aggressive” to have a better chance of winning next time.

“Maybe that will help us,” Racela said. “So now, if we become more aggressive, then we force the referees to call more fouls. That’s the only thing I could think of right now. If you study the whole series, it all boils down to who gets more free throws – who gets fouled a lot.

“That’s something we’re trying to study,” he added. “Maybe we could improve on that aspect.”

And that’s the factor he feels will be key in the finals between Ginebra and Meralco.

“Going to the finals, I hope both teams should be aggressive – and that will dictate who will get more free throws,” Racela said.
