MAGNOLIA has brought in Shabazz Muhammad for its out-of-town game in Panabo, Davao Del Norte against Meralco on Saturday in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup.
Muhammad takes over the spot of Glenn Robinson III, who has been relegated to the team’s import injured/reserved list on the eve of the game at the Panabo Multi-Purpose Tourism, Sports, & Cultural Center.
It is not yet clear as of posting time whether Muhammad will take over the rest of the conference with Robinson III now in the injured/reserved list.
In Magnolia’s previous game, Robinson had 25 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, three assists, and two blocks against NorthPort last Wednesday.
Shabazz a familiar face
Muhammad is no longer a stranger to coming in midseason in the PBA.
In the 2022 Governors’ Cup, Muhammad played for San Miguel to replace Orlando Johnson, and eventually lit up for 57 points in the Beermen's comeback win over the Bolts on March 5, 2022.
Like Robinson, the 31-year-old Muhammad had an extensive NBA career, playing for five seasons for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2013 to 2018, and one for Milwaukee Bucks from 2017 to 2018.
Recently, Muhammad had a brief stint with the Stockton Kings in the NBA G League, and is just fresh off suiting up in Venezuela.
The Hotshots finished the first round with a 3-2 win-loss record ahead of their rematch against Meralco, the team it lost to during the season opener last August 18, 99-94.
Robinson III had a decent showing for Magnolia, but his effort looks to be not enough to the liking of the Hotshots, who notched their first winning streak of the conference after posting back-to-back wins against Terrafirma and NorthPort.
