THE MVP group will once again forge a tie-up with the San Beda Red Lions as it fields a new team in the D-League to take the place of its multi-titled NLEX Road Warriors.
Metro Pacific Investments Corp. has passed a letter of intent for its participation in the D-League Aspirants Cup scheduled to open on October 27 with a team that will likely carry the colors of cignal TV or Philex Mining.
Twelve teams that have signified their intention to compete in the developmental league have until September 1 to formalize their participation through the payment of the franchise fee.
So far, only the Red Lions players, led by Baser Amer and Ola Adeogun, and longtime Manila resident Kirk Long are assured of suiting up for MPIC-controlled team in the next conference, sources said.
Spin.ph has earlier reported that members of the Gilas cadet pool like Garvo Lanete, Kevin Alas, Matt Ganuelas, Jake Pascual, and Ronald Pascual are being convinced to pass on the coming PBA rookie draft to play for one more season with the MVP group in the D-League.
NLEX, which won six titles in the D-League before joining the PBA with its acquisition of the Air21 franchise, had previous tie-ups with San beda that allowed the likes of Nigerian center Adeogun to suit up for the Road Warriors.
Long, who played for Ateneo in college, has been allowed by the PBA to play in the D-League despite being an American.
