THE online chatter nearly turned into reality.
A Kia Motors official admitted on Tuesday that the PBA expansion team tinkered with the idea of tapping Mommy Dionisia as its muse when it parades for the first time in the PBA opening on Sunday.
Kia governor Ginia Roxas-Domingo told Spin.ph the popular mom of playing coach Manny Pacquiao was considered by top officials of the Columbian Autocar Corporation for the honor.
"Yes, isa si Mommy D sa mga pinagpilian. We also looked at Manny's daughters, Princess and Queen," said the amiable automotive executive during the PBA Chairman's Ball at Resorts World Manila.
Domingo, however, refused to divulge why Kia eventually decided to instead pick Pacquiao's wife and current Sarangani vice governor Jinkee Pacquiao to be the team's muse.
"We just felt Jinkee fits the bill. Kasi we want to give Manny a 'first lady' when he parades with our team in our maiden opening ceremony," said the CAC president.
In an earlier interview with Spin.ph, the colorful 'Pac-mom' said she would be interested to do the honor.
"Totoo ba na gusto nila ako (na muse)? Kaso nahihiya ako. Pero kung gusto nila, okay naman siguro. Pero di ko pa alam," said Mommy D shortly after Pacquiao was named Kia playing coach last May.
Meanwhile, a source revealed the reason on why Kia aborted the Mommy Dionisia plan.
"Syempre, nanay 'yun. Si Manny ang siga at idol natin sa boxing. Tapod andun si Mommy D. Baka isipin ng iba... Mommy's boy pa siya," said a Kia official who asked not to be named.
The company was also aware of the negative feedback from fans, the source added.
