MOALA Tautuaa and Troy Rosario admitted the pressure of being touted rookies did them in during their disappointing pro debut for Talk ‘N Text, which suffered a 114-98 beating at the hands of Alaska on Friday night in the PBA Philippine Cup.

While less heralded freshmen from other teams made impressive debuts, this year’s top two picks submitted poor performances in their anticipated debut, combining for just six points on 3-of-12 shooting and five boards.

“For myself, I did feel a little pressure,” Tautuaa admitted. “But the old guys told me I shouldn't. They just told me to play my game and today, that didn't come. We have to work it out in practice.”

“Pressure, nandyan naman lagi yan,” Rosario said for his part. “Nasasayo lang kung paano mo i-aaccept. Sa akin, in-accept ko parang challenge sa akin para mag-improve. Hindi para pabayaan yung laro.”

Both rookies simply failed to live up to the hype, although they are optimistic of bouncing back.

“I understood all eyes will be pointed towards me and unfortunately, I didn't bring what I needed,” Tautuaa, who had two points, two boards, and three assists in 19 minutes, said. “But it's a long season so I got to keep my head up and continue to work, bring the results the team needs.”

“Time to learn,” Rosario, had four points and three rebounds in 15 minutes of action, added. “Mahaba pa 'yung season. Hindi pa naman siguro ‘to makakasakit sa akin.”

Aces coach Alex Compton said they didn’t do anything special against the Texters’ rookie twin towers.

“It’s tough for a rookie, especially they missed a lot of the preseason too because of Gilas,” the American mentor said. “So it’s your first time in the PBA, you’re trying to jell with everybody, figure everything out.

“Once they get their feet a little bit more wet, they’re going to be great.”
