MO Tautuaa took a hard fall late in NorthPort’s win over TNT on Sunday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Fil-Tongan big man scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Batang Pier’s 109-83 win over the KaTropa that kept their playoff hopes alive. Tautuaa, however, was unable to finish the game after falling back first from a foul by TNT’s Yousef Taha.
Tautuaa was hobbling when he faced reporters for a postgame interview, but the NorthPort big man said he was fine.
“My back is okay. I work out a lot so I have a big enough butt to take the fall. Let’s hope because right now, it’s okay,” said the seven-year veteran.
Tautuaa though is hoping that his back will remain okay in the next few days.
“It hurt when it happened but right now, I’m feeling a little bit better. I iced it obviously. Only time will tell. I feel good but time will tell I guess,” said Tautuaa.
Tautuaa declined to speculate or react on the action made by Taha which occurred late in the game and the result of the match already in the bag.
Instead, Tautuaa said he felt relieved that his team was finally able to maintain a big lead in the fourth quarter to win the game. Sunday’s victory snapped a six-game losing skid.
“You guys tell me, did it look like it was on purpose? Because I couldn’t. Obviously, I’m in a spin cycle so I couldn’t see what was happening. I don’t know. It hurt. That’s all I can tell you,” said Tautuaa.
What's important for now is they won.
“Finally right?” said Tautuaa. “That’s a team that we want to beat. We keep preaching about it and we finally did. It gives us hope that we can finally do it.”
