MO Charlo hardly showed the effects of food poisoning as he still led the way for Rain or Shine in its 116-94 win over GlobalPort in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Tuesday night.

The Elasto Painters import, who didn’t practice on the eve of the match after his stomach reacted negatively to some pasta he ate the night before, still played well enough to lead his team’s second-half surge.

“The energy level was just so-so. I tried to give everything I had,” said Charlo, who threw up twice and had to be infused with IV on Sunday night. “I was sick the last day and a half, so I didn’t know how much energy that I would have today, but I felt pretty good up until I got hit.”

The 32-year-old American was referring to a hit to the stomach – of all places – in the third quarter that left him feeling nauseous once again.

“It kind of triggered it a little bit, kind of got the bubblies again,” he said.

Still, Charlo overcame it and scored 11 of his team-high-tying 18 points in the period where the E-Painters turned the game around.

“It was a must-win game for us, so I just felt I needed to be more aggressive,” said the 6-foot-4 American forward, who shot 6-of-12 from the field and added 11 boards, three steals, two assists, and one block in just 24 minutes.

Charlo’s game was aggressive enough to even gain the nod of ROS coach Yeng Guiao.

“I’m happy that Mo got his game going,” he said. “He was kind of weak, but it really did not show during the game.”

As a reward, Charlo got to sit out the entire fourth period when the E-Painters were already up by insurmountable numbers.

    “I needed that,” Charlo said.
