TONY Mitchell expressed confidence NLEX has what it takes to still advance to the playoffs following a cold start to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Mitchell led his team to victory on Wednesday against Meralco after finishing with 32 points and 20 rebounds in the Road Warriors’ 100-91 victory.

The Road Warriors remained in last place with a 1-6 record, but Mitchell remains defiant the team can put on some wins to stay in contention for the quarterfinals.

“I don’t necessarily know how the standings go or how that works but damn hell yeah, we want to try to make it to the playoffs you know what I mean?” Mitchell said. “If it comes down to it and we keep winning games, yeah of course we want to make it. We just got to keep going day by day at this point.”

Mitchell is also unfazed as NLEX next faces Barangay Ginebra on Sunday in Batangas City. The Gin Kings are fresh from consummating trades with Stanley Pringle being acquired from NorthPort in exchange of Sol Mercado, Kevin Ferrer, and Jervy Cruz.

“We are not scared,” said Mitchell. “It’s a good team. They just made a trade. Everybody knows. Stanley Pringle is going to be there on Sunday and we are going to be ready to play,” said Mitchell.

After the double-double effort, the 27-year-old Mitchell said he is not taking all the credit for the victory, mentioning Jericho Cruz as one of the key players in the win.

“I can’t even put it to words pretty much. I feel like it was a team effort. Jericho helps so much, you know what I mean? And with coach Yeng back, it was good to just get that first win and change the momentum, change the morale of our team, and just be positive,” said Mitchell.

“We’ll take this win and keep going forward, keep building,” he added.
