A DEJECTED Air21 forward KG Canaleta blamed foul trouble for his woeful performance that led to a 60-53 loss to Petron on Friday night — the Express' fourth straight setback in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
After picking up two early fouls, the former University of the East Red Warrior standout failed to regain his rhythm the rest of the way and finished with just eight points on 2-of-11 from beyond the arc and 3-of-16 overall.
“Kanina kasi two fouls agad ako. So nung matagal ako sa bench tapos pinasok ako, nag-iba na ang pakiramdam ko. Nanlamig ako, tapos tuluy-tuloy na ang frustration ko,” Canaleta told Spin.ph after the game.
The 32-year-old Canaleta also admitted forcing the issue on offense in trying to take advantage of a smaller but proven defender in Ronald Tubid.
“Sa kagustuhan makabutas ako, wala talaga, di ko nasusundan ng tira ko kaya back to work uli kami for the next game. Otherwise, lulubog na kami, mahirap maghabol,” he said.
The four-time PBA Slam-dunk king said that for the Express to snap their skid, the second stringers must step up down the stretch.
“Kailangan maging ready yung second group namin. Kasi kailangan din naming tulungan yung import namin. Nawawala kasi kami kapag crucial na so kailangang magtulungan,” he said.
The Express have three days to prepare and try to arrest their four-game skid when they face the Meralco Bolts on Wednesday, also at the Big Dome.
