A NEW year, a new start for Globalport Batang Pier.
The entry of Junel Baculi as new Batang Pier coach gives veteran players Gary David and Willie Miller the confidence of having a fresh start in the coming Commissioner’s Cup.
After the team capped its inaugural campaign with only a win to show in 14 games during the Philippine Cup, David is thrilled at the prospect of the new winning attitude Baculi is expected to inject to the team.
“Oo syempre naman confident ako sa mas marami pang panalo (with coach Junel),” said David.
Aside from being reunited with Baculi with whom he played for when he was still with Barako Bull, Miller hopes Globalport will be able to minimize its lapses and errors.
The two-time league MVP also hopes Baculi’s system will transform the Batang Pier into a fighting team.
“We need to set up a goal, not just win two (games), kasi we know we could compete naman,” said Miller. “We felt last conference we were competing talaga to the extent na we knew we could win.
May mga lapses pero yun pa rin ang nangyayari, so we have to fill the gap (with coach Junel with the team).”
The adjustment of course, must not come only from within the team, but also from Globalport’s two superstar players.
To which Miller agreed. “Yun ang kailangan (mag-lead kami ni Gary). Yun ang isa sa mga roles namin."
