MIKEE Romero looked like he's saving his best for last as chairman of the last PBA season.
The outgoing chairman assured that the league's 43rd season will open shop on December 17, rattling off a target date for an end to the ongoing impasse over the tenure of commissioner Chito Narvasa.
"By next week, we will fix everything," Romero insisted in a speech during the PBA Press Corps Awards Night on Thursday. "Rest assured, the PBA will open on December 17."
Making a rare public appearance, Romero is confident the 43-year-old league will find a solution to a standoff that started when seven teams left fuming by a trade Narvasa approved sought to end the controversial commissioner's tenure.
However, a five-team bloc led by the three San Miguel Corp.-owned ballclubs have put their support behind Narvasa, creating the impasse.
"Like a normal family, may konting problema," the Globalport owner said. "Like a normal human being, mga passionate manalo 'tong mga teams na 'to, pati yung team ko, kaya umaabot lang sa ganito.
"I don't want to elaborate anymore (on) what's happening behind the scenes, but ang masasabi ko lang, sa December 17, malaking opening ang gagawin ng PBA," he added. "The PBA will be, as scheduled, business as usual."
"Yan lang ho ang mare-report ko sa inyo. Tayo po sa PBA, maaayos po natin 'to," Romero concluded.
