ANTIPOLO – Mike Madanly stressed his hot shooting that sparked TNT Katropa’s 124-117 victory over Phoenix in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Friday night was a testament to his hard work behind the scenes.

Despite the Fuel Masters’ defense already locking down on him, the Syrian sniper still managed to knock down eight three-pointers on the way to ending up with 30 points off the bench.

“It didn’t come from nothing. I worked hard every day in the gym,” said Madanly, who came in averaging 14.2 points in his first five games. “And that’s how we’re supposed to be every game.”

The 6-foot-3 shooting guard, though, played down his individual effort from long range, saying the rest of the Texters’ shooters in Ranidel de Ocampo, Larry Fonacier, Jayson Castro, Troy Rosario, Kris Rosales, Ryan Reyes, and even import Mychal Ammons also hit their targets as they matched a league season-high with 19 triples as a unit.

“Sometimes it goes in, sometimes it goes out, but it’s God’s blessing for me today,” said Madanly, who also had two steals, one board, one assist, and one block in 32 minutes. “But it was a team effort.”

The 35-year-old cager said Ammons’ inside game also complements the Texters’ shooters.

“I love his game,” Madanly said of Ammons, who registered 22 points and 18 boards. “That’s what we need from him. He’s a great rebounder and he’s helping us a lot under the basket.”

“You see, this team doesn’t need one to score, but everybody can score,” he added. “One day I score, the next day it’s Jayson, so it doesn’t matter who scores, but who wins.”

“These guys are doing their roles and it’s perfect,” the Syrian star concluded as his team rolled to a sixth straight win.
