MIKE Glover tries to live up to his “Optimus Prime” monicker as he makes his debut for GlobalPort in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday afternoon against Star at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The new Batang Pier import, who replaced Dominique Sutton, played street ball in New York City and earned the nickname after the lead character from the Transformers franchise for his ferocious dunks, being very dominant, and leading by example.
“I’ve been living up to that name every time I step on the floor,” Glover told Spin.ph after getting himself officially measured and making the 6-foot-5 limit. “And I want them (Filipino fans) to see the best of Mike Glover.”
Tipoff is at 4:30 p.m. with Glover matching up against Hotshots counterpart Marqus Blakely, who has already proven himself, being a two-time champion and former Best Import awardee.
The 28-year-old Glover seeks to lead the Batang Pier to their first win after starting the conferences with two losses, the same as the Hotshots.
