IMPORT Michael Dunigan is confident Barangay Ginebra will be a force to be reckoned with in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, so long as it plays to its full potential.

Dunigan was happy to see Ginebra move up to a share of sixth place with GlobalPort and defending champion Purefoods at 4-3, but felt the Gin Kings unnecessarily made the game against the lowly Elite harder that it should've been.

“I felt this game (against Blackwater) should have been a bit easier but I felt somewhat, we played down to the level of competition,” said the 25-year-old American import, who banged in 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds.

“I’m not saying Blackwater is a bad team. I’m just saying, once my players were locked in and were all on the same page, we’re a force to reckon with.”

Nonetheless, Dunigan said he understands that the team is still going through a transition as process since reverting to the run-and-gun style under Ato Agustin, who replaced Jeff Cariaso at the start of the conference.

“It’s a building process. We’re learning how to still communicate with each other and figure out what our game plan is going to the game,” he said.

Ginebra star Mark Caguioa, on the other hand, said the team needs to overcome its tendency to be complacent in some stretches during games.

“We can’t be complacent kasi ganun ang nagiging problema when we win games,” the former league MVP said. “We tend to relax because even in our last game (against Purefoods Star), we relaxed, so we also need to remind each other not to relax because going to a game like this, malakas din itong Blackwater.”

Ginebra takes a two-week break before returning to action on March 11 in a game against NLEX.
