GINEBRA is not the only team that has inspired a fan to write and sing a song for its squad that’s battling in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.
While the Gin Kings have Marge Cadiz, who has become an overnight social media sensation, Meralco has its own singing fan in Joseph 'Phes' Flores, who wrote and belted out his song for the Bolts’ during the team’s impromptu fans’ day after Tuesday's practice at the Meralco gym on the eve of Game Six.
The song, sang to the tune of the 'Voltes 5' theme song, encourages the Bolts to overcome the odds - in this case a 3-2 deficit in the best-of-seven title series.
“Kahit na dehado, basta’t lalaban tayo. Susuporta ako, ang sigaw ko, ‘Meralco!’” Flores yelled. “Pusong palaban, parang kawal sa digmaan. Kapag nasugatan, lalong lumalaban. Hindi magtatagal, makakamit ang tagumpaay. Go, Meralco! Go, Meralco!”

Flores, who has been working for a Meralco subsidiary company for five years, said he actually wrote the song during the Bolts’ earlier years in the league, before altering some of the lyrics for this series.
“Dito ako naghahanapabuhay kaya dito rin suporta ko,” the Meralco employee said.
However, Flores has no intention of becoming famous even as he bared he has written a few other songs.
“Gumagawa ako ng kanta, pero hindi ako nagpapasikat,” Flores insisted. “Wala nga akong Facebook eh.”
He simply wants to support Meralco and no other team.
Not even Ginebra?
“Of course not,” Flores stressed.
