MERALCO took a step ahead of the PBA pack as it sets to bring in former NBA player Johnny O'Bryant as import in the Commissioner's Cup.
The 6-foot-9 O'Bryant was a second-round pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2014 draft and played for the team until 2016.
See Gray back in town but still no timetable for return, says Cone
He also had stints with the Denver Nuggets and Charlotte Hornets.
The Bolts made the annoucement on O'Bryant's signing on Saturday.
"Every conference is a chance for us to get better as a team. We look forward to continuing the gains the Bolts have made in recent years as we work towards our first championship," said team manager Paolo Trillo in a statement.
The 29-year-old Bryant is coming off fresh from his stint with the Wonju DB Promy in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
The announcement comes just as the Bolts are in the midst of the Philippine Cup semifinals series against San Miguel, with the best-of-seven affair currently tied at 1-1.
Meralco failed to make the playoffs the last time the Commissioner's Cup was held in 2019 when it paraded three imports in Gani Lawal, Jimmie Taylor, and Delroy James.
Set for a Sept. 21 kickoff, the Commissioner's Cup features an import height limit of 6-foot-10 and below.
