MERALCO rookie Anjo Caram is not expecting to be called to fill in for veteran playmaker Mike Cortez, but vowed to be ready for any eventuality.
Cortez sprained his right ankle in the fourth quarter of a heartbreaking 82-83 loss to Ginebra, but instead of thinking about getting more minutes, Caram is actually hoping his veteran teammate would be ready to play against Air 21 on January 4.
"Sana makalaro siya, mas makakatulong 'yun para manalo," he said.
The former San Beda Red Lion actually did fine against Ginebra with six points, four assists, one rebound and one steal in 18 minutes of play.
Still, the 22-year old player from Iloilo City knows he has to step up in the coming game whether or not his teammate could play.
"Siguro 'yung nangyari 'yung breaks (of the game) napunta sa Ginebra nung last one minute ng laro," he said. "For me kailangan ko lang mag step up lalo nang na-injure si Mike."
"Magfo-focus lang ako sa defense and I know na its a big shoe to fill pero I will do my best na I lead 'yung team," he said.
