MERALCO’S Game 3 win in the PBA 50th Season Philippine Cup semifinals may have come at a prize.

Chris Newsome suffered an injury with two minutes left that left a cloud of uncertainty even after the Bolts’ 97-89 win over TNT on Friday to finally claim a victory in their series.

Newsome was on the low block when Chris Banchero fell to his left knee after defending a driving Rey Nambatac.

The Meralco star visibly felt pain in his knee, although he walked on his own on his way back to the bench, and into the dugout after the ballgame.

Newsome was headed to the hospital to have his knee checked when he spoke to reporters, with his left knee wrapped.

“We are going to find out. Right now, I’m headed to the hospital and get an MRI. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious. I’m just happy that the team got the win tonight,” said Newsome.

“Rey was driving. CB (Banchero) was guarding him. Got bumped off and kinda flew into my knee. Unfortunate situation but it’s one of those breaks of the game. It’s out of my control. It’s no one’s fault really,” said Newsome.

The usually durable Newsome has also been dealing with a dislocated finger before Game 3.

Newsome said he wants to play for the crucial Game 4, but is also confident about his team’s chances with or without him on the floor.

“The fact that there is something wrong for sure or else, I kept on playing. I don’t know the extent of it yet. For me, it’s just going to see what it is first, let the MRI tell us what it is and then focus on what to do next, whether that’s starting my strengthening or whatever recovery I have to do to try to get ready for the next game if it’s possible," he said.

Just do whatever I can to try to get out there for the next game because my team needs me," he continued. “But if I’m not there, my guys are capable of stepping up and I believe and I have confidence in every single one of them that they are going to be just fine."
