MERALCO is closing the door on any potential players’ trade – temporarily.
With a three-game winning streak going for the team in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, team consultant Jong Uichico believes it’s not a good decision to pursue changes within the Bolts’ lineup.
“Wala na yun (trade). Kasi nasa kalagitnaan na e. I don’t think it will be a good idea,” said Uichico.
The Bolts nearly pulled a deal with Air 21 last month that could have sent Ronjay Buenafe, Mark Borboran and a future second round pick to the Express. In return, the franchise will acquire former top Draft pick Noy Baclao, James Sena, and John Wilson.
But a source confirmed to Spin.ph the negotiations fell through due to a lot of factors, among them is the current win run of the Bolts.
Uichico however did not hesitate to say that Meralco can still push for it the next conference.
“Maybe next conference, matagal pa naman `yung next conference… August pa,” he added.
The eight-time champion coach is also keeping his fingers crossed the Bolts can sustain their current run.
“Sana magtuloy-tuloy na. Three straight na… magsusunod-sunod pa sana,” Uichico said with optimism as Meralco is now tied with sister team Talk N Text at the 4th to 5th places with similar 4-3 (win-loss) records.
